Quad Brown Named to Manning Award Watch List

Georgia State quarterback Cornelious "Quad" Brown IV has been named to the Preseason Watch List for the Manning Award, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl. The watch list includes 32 of the top quarterbacks in the nation.

The Manning Awards was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in honor of the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates' bowl performances in its balloting.

Brown, the sophomore from Birmingham, Ala., was the MVP of Georgia State's 2020 LendingTree Bowl victory over Western Kentucky.

In his first season, he accounted for 2,579 yards of total and 24 touchdowns as he passed for 2,278 yards and 17 touchdowns while rushing for 301 yards and seven scores. He finished second in the Sun Belt Conference in passing (227.8 ypg), total offense (257.9 ypg) and points responsible for (14.6 ppg).

Brown directed a GSU offense that averaged a school-record 33.3 points per game while ranking second in program history in rushing yards per game and third in total offense per game. That unit returns all 11 starters in 2021.

He was particularly strong late in the season, averaging 313 yards passing while completing 65 percent of his passes in Georgia State's season-ending three-game winning streak vs. South Alabama, Georgia Southern and WKU.

Brown was named a Manning Award Star of the Week after passing for a career-high 372 yards in the win over Georgia Southern, when he directed 17 straight fourth quarter points and scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 1-yard run with 2:54 to play.

Brown and the Panthers open preseason practice Friday, four weeks before their Sept. 4 season opener vs. Army (12 p.m. at Center Parc Stadium on ESPNU).
