With the start of the 2021 football season fast approaching, it's time to get to know Georgia State's class of newcomers that will join a GSU program that returns 22 starters from last year's bowl-winning squad.
Today's featured freshman is offensive lineman
Cameron Dye.
Dye is a local product from Milton High School in the Atlanta area and one of three promising offensive lineman in the 2021 recruiting class, along with
Montavious Cunningham and
Marquez Bargman.
A two-time all-region selection in Georgia largest classification, Dye brings a pedigree of success after helping Milton to the 2018 Class 7-A state title as well as the state quarterfinals in 2020. He allowed no sacks his entire junior season and just one in his senior year.
Dye comes from a football family. His father, Ernest Dye, was an NFL offensive lineman for the Cardinals and Rams after being drafted in the first round out of Southern Cal in 1993. His brother, Ernest Jr., played football at Southern Illinois.
The offensive line has been a strength for Georgia State's potent offense the last three years and this year should be no different as all five starters return, led by four-time All-Sun Belt Conference selection
Shamarious Gilmore at left guard.
Georgia State opens the season on Sept. 4, when the Panthers host Army at Center Parc Stadium in a noon kickoff on ESPNU. That kicks off the most exciting and challenging schedule in program history, including non-conference games at North Carolina and Auburn and a home date with Charlotte. In Sun Belt Conference play, the Panthers host Appalachian State, Texas State, Arkansas State and Troy while traveling to ULM, Georgia Southern, Louisiana, Coastal Carolina.
