Back for "Moore"

Anticipation is high for the 2021 football season as Georgia State returns 22 starters from last year's record-setting team and LendingTree Bowl champions.

Head coach Shawn Elliott's squad welcomes back all 11 starters from an offensive unit that averaged a school-record 33.3 points per game, nine starters from a GSU defense that ranked No. 7 in FBS with a program-record 35 sacks, and their placekicker and punter.

Each week leading up to the 2021 season opener on Sept. 4 vs. Army at Center Parc Stadium, GeorgiaStateSports.com will feature one of the 22 returning starters.

Safety, Senior-R*, Ashburn, Va.

Safety Chris Moore is one of seven "super seniors" who are back for more, taking advantage of the extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA due to the pandemic.

The Ashburn, Va., native made an immediate impact at GSU as a starting safety with 34 tackles, one tackle for loss, three pass breakups and a forced fumble.

Moore had one of his best games in the LendingTree Bowl win over WKU with five tackles and two pass breakups to help the defense allow a season-low 284 yards of total offense.

Another top performance came at Appalachian State, when he made a season-high eight tackles as the GSU defense held the Mountaineers to their season low of 310 total yards. In another strong defensive effort at South Alabama, Moore forced a fumble that the Panthers recovered.

He also contributed on special teams, executing a fake punt vs. ULM, when he took a handoff and ran 32 yards for the first down.

Moore joined the Panther program in 2020 as a graduate transfer after playing four seasons at Virginia.

At Virginia, Moore played in 32 games, including 11 starts, over three seasons and appeared in two bowl games, including the 2019 Orange Bowl. He totaled 97 tackles, four tackles for loss, one interception and six pass breakups for the Cavaliers.

With Moore returning to the defensive backfield alongside safety Antavious Lane and cornerbacks Quavian White and Jaylon Jones, the Panthers will have a talented and experienced quartet in the secondary.
