Rogers Returns to Atlanta to Join Coaching Staff

Roddreka Rogers will join Gene Hill's staff as an assistant coach.

ATLANTA -- Head women's basketball coach Gene Hill announced the addition of assistant coach Roddreka Rogers to his coaching staff Thursday. 

Rogers, who served as an interim assistant coach at Butler for the 2020-21 season, returns to Atlanta, where she played her collegiate career at Georgia Tech from 2013-16. During her freshman season, Hill was an assistant coach on the Tech staff. 

Prior to Butler, she spent the previous two seasons coaching at South Carolina State. Before moving to the sideline, Rogers was a three-year starter at Georgia Tech and also played professionally in Poland.
 
"I have known Roddreka since she was in high school," Hill said. "I coached her in college so when I say we are getting a great role model for our players, I say that without any hesitation. She was a blue collar player, and she is proving to be the same as a young coach. Coach Drek will provide the type of energy, passion and knowledge that will help elevate our post play. I am excited to have her join our family."
 
As a student-athlete, Rogers competed in the ACC for Georgia Tech. A 6-0 forward, Rogers capped off her collegiate career by averaging 10.4 points and 7.7 rebounds per game as a senior. She led the Jackets with 254 rebounds and ranked second on the team with seven double-doubles.
 
Before attending Georgia Tech, Rogers played two years of high school basketball at Xavier College Prep in Phoenix, Ariz., and one year at Myers Park in Charlotte, N.C. In her senior season at Myers Park, Rogers captained the team and led them to a 31-1 record. She was named 2012 Southwestern 4A Player of the Year by the Charlotte Observer and was selected to the 2012 First Team All-State by the North Carolina Basketball Coaches' Association.

"I am extremely excited to joined the Georgia State program," Rogers said. "I have known Coach Hill since I was a student-athlete myself and he has been a tremendous mentor in my life. It's an honor to have the opportunity to work for and learn under his leadership. I am looking forward to contributing to the achievements of this program and helping the staff and student-athletes continue to be successful on and off the court."
 
The daughter of Tisa and Rodney Rogers, Roddreka was born in Denver, Colo. Her father was a 12-year NBA vet that played college ball at Wake Forest.
