Fearnley and Luque Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

ATLANTA – Georgia State juniors Matthew Fearnley and Logan Luque were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Men's Soccer Team as announced by the organization on Thursday.

The awards recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Georgia State was honored among District 4 honorees which includes the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, as well as Puerto Rico.

First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early July.

Fearnley, who is majoring in health and physical education, most recently was named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Scholar All-America Team as well as the United Soccer Coaches Association Scholar All-Region Team.

Fearnley earned All-Sun Belt recognition and helped guide the nations' most-prolific offense in the fall while tying for the team lead with five goals to go along with an assist. He led the nation with three game-winning goals in just 13 matches. Along with being tied for second in the NCAA in goals during the fall, he was second in the nation with 11 points, behind only teammate Aris Briggs.

Fearnley was named to the All-Sun Belt Preseason Team and twice named Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week last season. He also drew a pair of honors on the College Soccer News Team of the Week as well as twice being named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week.

Luque, who is majoring in computer science, earned 2018 Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year honors and was a 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree.

This past season he played in 12 matches scoring a pair of goals to go along with an assist for five total points which was tied for fifth-most on the team. Luque took four shots, including two shots on goal. He scored goals in both matches against UAB, including the game-winning goal in Birmingham. He ranked No. 22 in the NCAA and No. 6 in the Sun Belt in total goals and was tenth in the conference in total points during the fall.

The duo will be looking to become the first CoSIDA Academic All-Americans in program history. They helped GSU to a 9-2-2 record during the fall and a sixth-straight Sun Belt Conference championship game appearance.

Georgia State will report back to campus in early August to start preparations for the 2021 season.
