Glover Helps Pave the Way for Record-Setting Offense

Anticipation is high for the 2021 football season as Georgia State returns 22 starters from last year's record-setting team and LendingTree Bowl champions.

Head coach Shawn Elliott's squad welcomes back all 11 starters from an offensive unit that averaged a school-record 33.3 points per game, nine starters from a GSU defense that ranked No. 7 in FBS with a program-record 35 sacks, and their placekicker and punter.

Each week leading up to the 2021 season opener on Sept. 4 vs. Army at Center Parc Stadium, GeorgiaStateSports.com will feature one of the 22 returning starters.

TRAVIS GLOVER
Left Tackle, R-Junior, Vienna, Ga.

The largest member of the Georgia State football team is massive left tackle Travis Glover, who stands 6-foot-6 and 330 pounds.

Glover has put that size to good use in his two years on the GSU front line, helping the Panthers average 221 yards rushing, 433 yards of total offense and 32 points per game over the 2019-20 seasons.

He earned a starting berth at right tackle as a redshirt freshman in 2019 and went on to earn Freshman All-America honors as part of a GSU offensive line that paved the way for school records for rushing yards (3,141), rushing touchdowns (30), total offense (5,818), first downs (305), touchdowns (53) and points (406).

Last fall, Glover moved over to left tackle and played nearly every snap for a unit that averaged a school-record 33.3 points per game, along with 424.3 yards of total offense. His blocking on quarterback Cornelious Brown IV's blind side helped Georgia State rank No. 13 in FBS in fewest sacks allowed.

Glover hails from the South Georgia town of Vienna in Dooly County, and his fellow offensive linemen give him some good-natured ribbing about his small-town roots. Shamarious Gilmore and Johnathan Bass joke that Travis had a horse named Buttercup in his backyard that he would ride to school.

Kidding aside, Glover, Gilmore, the left guard, and Bass, the right tackle, along with center Malik Sumter and right guard Pat Bartlett make up a veteran Georgia State offensive line that enters the 2021 with a combined 137 career starts. That's a strong foundation for a Georgia State offense that returns all 11 starters.
