Meet the New Panthers: Fuches "Deuce" Lewis II

With the start of the 2021 football season fast approaching, it's time to get to know Georgia State's class of newcomers that will join a GSU program that returns 22 starters from last year's bowl-winning squad.

Today's featured freshman is defensive lineman Fuches Lewis II.

His first name is pronounced FEW-shuss but the freshman from Savannah, Ga., is better known as Deuce. 

A four-year starter on both sides of the ball at Calvary Day School, Lewis was a first-team all-state nose tackle by Recruit Georgia. He was also a four-time all-region selection and All-Greater Savannah honoree.

Lewis joins a veteran Georgia State defensive line, led by seniors Dontae Wilson and Hardrick Willis. That front line helped the Panthers set school records for sacks (35) and average yards per rush (3.86). Nine of the 11 defensive starters return for 2021.

Georgia State opens the season on Sept. 4, when the Panthers host Army at Center Parc Stadium in a noon kickoff on ESPNU. That kicks off the most exciting and challenging schedule in program history, including non-conference games at North Carolina and Auburn and a home date with Charlotte. In Sun Belt Conference play, the Panthers host Appalachian State, Texas State, Arkansas State and Troy while traveling to ULM, Georgia Southern, Louisiana, Coastal Carolina.
