Meet the New Panthers: RB Jaquan Dixon

With the start of the 2021 football season just three months away, it's time to get to know Georgia State's class of newcomers that will join a Panthers program that returns 22 starters from last year's bowl-winning squad.

Today's featured freshman is running back Jaquan Dixon from Green Sea Floyds High School in Loris, S.C.

Dixon was an all-state selection while winning two state titles at Green Sea Floyds. He rushed for 875 yards and 14 touchdowns in just six games in 2020, averaging 7.9 yards per carry

Dixon topped 1,800 yards rushing in his both his junior and sophomore seasons, and in 2019 he was recognized as the top player in South Carolina's Class 1A.

Dixon adds another talented ball carrier to a Georgia State's running back room that features Destin Coates, Tucker Gregg and Jamyest Williams as its top returnees from 2020's record-setting offensive unit.

That trio of veterans combined to rush for 1,490 yards and 13 touchdowns in 10 games last fall (and the doesn't even include the 301 yards rushing and seven touchdowns by quarterback Cornelious Brown IV). With the entire offensive line also returning, the Panthers should again have a potent ground attack.

Georgia State opens the season on Sept. 4, when the Panthers host Army at Center Parc Stadium in a noon kickoff on ESPNU. That kicks off the most exciting and challenging schedule in program history, including non-conference games at North Carolina and Auburn and a home date with Charlotte. In Sun Belt Conference play, the Panthers host Appalachian State, Texas State, Arkansas State and Troy while traveling to ULM, Georgia Southern, Louisiana, Coastal Carolina.
