Meet the New Panthers: Montavious Cunningham

With the start of the 2021 football season just three months away, it's time to get to know Georgia State's class of newcomers that will join a GSU program that returns 22 starters from last year's bowl-winning squad.

Today's featured freshman is offensive lineman Montavious Cunningham from Athens, Ga.

This talented blocker starred at Clarke Central High School High School, where he was a three-year starter and earned first-team All-Region.

Cunningham is one of three offensive linemen in the signing class of 2021, along with Marquez Bargman (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) and Cameron Dye (Alpharetta, Ga.).

That trio joins a veteran unit on which all five starters return, along with all the key backups plus several redshirt freshmen, giving first-year offensive line coach Eman Naghavi a good mix of veterans and youngsters to work with. The offensive line has been a key component in Georgia State's prolific offense the last two years, paving the way for record-setting rushing numbers while protecting the quarterback to open up the passing game.

Georgia State opens the season on Sept. 4, when the Panthers host Army at Center Parc Stadium in a noon kickoff on ESPNU. That kicks off the most exciting and challenging schedule in program history, including non-conference games at North Carolina and Auburn and a home date with Charlotte. In Sun Belt Conference play, the Panthers host Appalachian State, Texas State, Arkansas State and Troy while traveling to ULM, Georgia Southern, Louisiana, Coastal Carolina.
