Jones, Smith Named All-Sun Belt Conference

ATLANTA -- Georgia State two-way standout Cameron Jones and outfielder Josh Smith have named to the All-Sun Belt Conference Baseball Team, as voted upon by the league head coaches and announced today on the eve of the Sun Belt Conference Baseball Championship, which open Tuesday in Montgomery, Ala.

Jones, from Kathleen, Ga., made the All-Sun Belt first team as the utility player. The second-year freshman is a left-handed pitcher and the Panthers' Friday starter who also plays first base and outfield.

Smith, the sophomore left fielder from College Park, Ga., is the Panthers' leading hitter with a .326 average, nine home runs and 30 runs batted in, along with 10 stolen bases.

The Panthers earned the No. 5 seed in the East Division and open the Sun Belt Championship vs. ULM on Tuesday at 5 p.m. ET at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery.

Friday starting pitcher who also plays first base and outfield ... Has started on the mound every weekend but one, and moved into the Friday slot vs.in early April ... Earned a win in GSU's sweep at Texas State, when pitched six innings and struck out six in the series opener ...  In 2-1 win over Coastal Carolina, he allowed just one run on two hits in six innings with a career-high seven strikeouts ... Also struck out seven in 5.1 innings vs. Georgia Southern, when he allowed two runs on five hits. No decision but the Panthers rallied to win the game and clinch the series ... Pitched a complete game at South Alabama, when he retired the final 11 batters in 3-2 loss ... Strong start at ULM, when he pitched into the eighth inning and allowed  three runs on six hits with four strikeouts and no walks ... Made his first career start vs. No. 14 West Virginia but did not get a decision in GSU's 20-4 victory ... Pitched four innings in start at No. 17 Tennessee, allowing one run on three hits ... At the plate, he provided several key hits, beginning with his three-run homer--the first of his career--in the Panthers' 9-run, 9th-inning rally to defeat App State. Also had an RBI-double in the 15-13 win ... Followed with three hits at No. 20 Georgia ... Had four hits in back-to-back wins over Troy, including three hits and three runs scored in Sunday's 17-15 series clincher ... Delivered game-tying double in the bottom of the 14th inning vs. Wofford and then scored the game-winner ... Drove in the go-ahead run with a 2-out single in the seventh inning to send the Panthers to an 11-10 win over Little Rock on the final day of the regular season.
