Men's Basketball Announces Signing of Chien-Hao Ma

ATLANTA – Georgia State head coach Rob Lanier announced Wednesday the signing of Chien-Hao Ma of Taiwan to the Panther roster for the 2021-22 season.

Nicknamed Riven, the 6-7 forward comes to Atlanta from The Skills Prep Factory following an extensive amount of international play representing Chinese Taipei. He represented his home country in both the 2019 U18 Asia Championship, as well as the 2018 U16 Asia Championship. He originally played for Taipei Municipal Song-Shan Senior High School before graduating in 2019.

"Chien brings so much to our program," Lanier said. "Basketball wise he has the size, shooting, ball skills and feel for the game that will help our team. Personally, he is humble and brings a selfless attitude that will allow him to fit seamlessly into our program. Chien has such a bright future, and we are so excited to have him join us."

At the 2018 Asian Championship, Ma averaged 16.3 points and 4.5 rebounds per game, ranking as the eighth overall scorer in the championship. He finished with 25 points and five rebounds against Korea and finished in double figures in all four games of the tournament.

At the 2018 FIBA U16 Asian Championship he averaged 9.0 points, 2.0 steals, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game.

While attending Taipei Municipal Song-Shan Senior High School, he led his school to the national championship in both 2016-17 and 2017-18 while also attending training camps in Serbia and Spain. In 2018 he finished with 30 points going 10-of-17 from 3-point range against Nan-Hu High School.

Georgia State, coming off a 16-6 season including a Sun Belt Conference East Division title and third-straight appearance in the conference tournament championship game, is expected to sign one more player for the 2021-22 now that the signing window is open.
