Sophomore baseball standout Josh Smith is the Georgia State Student-Athlete of the Week after a remarkable week on the diamond capped by some late-inning heroics on Sunday night.

Smith hit .438 for the week, highlighted by his ninth-inning, go-ahead grand slam that capped Georgia State's nine-run rally for a win over Appalachian State on Sunday night.
 
The Panthers entered the ninth inning of Sunday's final game vs. Appalachian State trailing 12-6. Smith singled early in the rally and scored on Cameron Jones' three-run homer that made it 12-10. He came to the plate for the second time in the inning with bases loaded and two outs and Georgia State trailing by one. He blasted the 1-2 pitch over the center field fence for his first career grand slam and a 15-12 lead, and GSU went on to win 15-13.
 
In Sunday's doubleheader alone, Smith went 5-for-9 with six RBI and five runs scored.
 
The sophomore outfielder had at least one hit in all four games of the week and also made a diving catch in left field to save two runs in the midweek game vs. Mercer.
 
For the season, Smith is the Panthers' leading hitter at .320.

Smith and the Panthers will return to the diamond on Tuesday traveling to Athens, Ga., to face Georgia, before returning home to host Troy this weekend.
