Women's Basketball Falls to Little Rock 75-68 in Sun Belt Championship

Box Score PENSACOLA, Fla.-Despite a double-double from junior Taylor Hosendove, a late fourth quarter run by Little Rock proved too much to overcome as Georgia State fell to the Trojans 75-68 on Saturday afternoon at Hartsell Arena.

Hosendove recorded her 18th career double-double, tied for the eighth-most in program history, finishing with 14 points and 13 rebounds, to go along with six assists.

Georgia State (13-11) saw its three-game winning streak snapped which was the catalyst behind the Panthers entering the championship as the No. 2-seed from the East Division.

Little Rock (15-10), the No. 3-seed from the West Division, will advance to the Sun Belt Conference Championship Semifinals on Sunday. The Trojans were led by Teal Battle who scored 25 points, while Mayra Caicedo just missed a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds, to go along with six assists.

Redshirt-sophomore Tehya Lyons came off the bench for Georgia State to score 10 points, while fellow redshirt-sophomore Hannah Sadler added 10 points and six rebounds.

Georgia State got out to a quick 8-2 lead as Ashley Foster and Kam Dziak both knocked down 3-pointers in the opening minutes. However, Little Rock quickly responded with a 9-0 run which gave the Trojans a 15-12 lead with 2:25 to play in the opening quarter. Knocking down four 3-pointers in the opening 10 minutes, the Panthers tied the score at 19 heading to the second quarter.

The Panthers retook the lead early in the second quarter and took at five-point lead, 26-21, following a Hosendove lay-up and free throw with 7:06 to play. However Little Rock used a late 5-0 run to take a 36-32 lead with 2:15 remaining and went into the locker room leading 36-34.

Little Rock pushed the lead to 42-36 three minutes into the third quarter, but the Panthers responded and cut the deficit to just one following a pair of free throws by Taniyah Worth. However, the Trojans immediately responded with an 8-3 run to take a 50-44 lead with 2:25 to play. Little Rock went into the fourth quarter with a 52-48 lead.

After trailing the first four minutes of the fourth quarter, a Hosendove lay-up tied the game 56-56 with 5:52 to play. Unfortunately Little Rock immediately responded with a 9-0 run to go ahead 65-56 with 2:41, a deficit that was too much for the Panthers to overcome.
