Panthers Return Home Sunday to Host Wofford in Home Opener

Home Opener Sunday at 2 p.m.

Tip-Off
Georgia State (0-2) vs. Wofford (1-1)
Sunday, Nov. 8 | 2 p.m.
GSU Convocation Center | Atlanta, Ga.

ATLANTA — After opening the season with a pair of challenging road contests, the Georgia State women's basketball team returns to the friendly confines of the GSU Convocation Center on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. to host Wofford in its 2026-27 home opener.

The matchup marks the first home game of the Marcilina Grayer era and the beginning of a two-game homestand for the Panthers, who are looking to secure their first victory of the season after narrow setbacks at Buffalo and UNC Asheville.

Georgia State showed flashes of its potential during the opening road swing. The Panthers opened the season by nearly stealing a road win at Buffalo before falling 82-81 in the final minute. Sophomore guard Grace Lanier announced herself as one of the Sun Belt Conference's emerging stars with a 32-point performance, tying for the eighth-highest single-game scoring total in program history.

Lanier followed that effort with another strong outing Friday night at UNC Asheville, scoring a team-high 16 points while helping the Panthers erase an 11-point deficit and briefly take the lead entering the fourth quarter. Georgia State's pressure defense once again proved disruptive, forcing 24 turnovers for the second consecutive game.

Through two games, the Panthers rank among the nation's leaders in steals and turnovers forced, creating 32 steals and forcing 49 turnovers. Lanier enters Sunday's contest averaging 24.0 points and 5.5 steals per game, while senior guard Ana Oliveira Dias has provided steady leadership with a team-best 4.5 assists per contest.

Sunday's game also serves as the first opportunity for Panther fans to see a roster loaded with new faces. Georgia State welcomed 11 newcomers during the offseason, including nine transfers, as Grayer and her staff assembled one of the most extensive roster overhauls in program history.

The Terriers arrive in Atlanta after splitting their first two games of the season. Wofford opened the year with a loss at NC State before rebounding with a 78-60 victory over King (Tenn.). The Terriers were picked second in the Southern Conference preseason poll and feature reigning SoCon Preseason Player of the Year Gabby Mundy.

The meeting marks the second consecutive season the programs have faced each other. Last November, Georgia State traveled to Spartanburg and came away with a 75-68 victory, giving the Panthers a three-game winning streak in the all-time series.

For Georgia State, Sunday's contest represents more than simply another non-conference game. It is the first chance to introduce a new era of Panthers basketball to the home crowd.

After two road tests that featured relentless defense, competitive stretches against quality opponents, and standout performances from a revamped roster, Georgia State now returns home looking to turn that early promise into its first win under Grayer and give fans something to celebrate in the 2026-27 home opener.

Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at the GSU Convocation Center and can be streamed on ESPN+.
