Buck Blanks Rattlers as Panthers Split Saturday Action

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Georgia State split a pair of games Saturday at the JU-UNF Spring Break Challenge, falling 10-4 to USC Upstate before shutting out Florida A&M 13-0 in five innings.

GSU and USC Upstate got the day started bright and early at 9 a.m. to beat the weather. The Spartans took advantage of a defensive mistake in the top of the third, scoring six unearned runs to take an early lead. USC Upstate added two more in the fourth before Skylar Mosel launched a three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth, her third homer in the last four games.

Daisy Hess hit a solo shot in the fifth, but the Spartans would go on to win 10-4.

After a long break, Georgia State got a dominant performance from starting pitcher Emily Buck against Florida A&M in the night cap. Buck threw a complete-game shutout, allowing just one hit while striking out two.

Buck received plenty of run support as GSU scored two in the first, five in the second, four in the third and two more in the fourth. GSU pushed 13 runs across on 11 hits.

Hess and Bailee Richardson each drove in three runs and Emily Brown drove in a pair.

On the season, Richardson, Hess and Mosel share the team lead with three homers a piece. Richardson is hitting .395 with 15 RBI and Hess is batting .327 with a team-high 18 RBI.

Buck is now 3-0 with a 2.17 ERA, three complete games and two shutouts.

The Panthers will visit North Florida Sunday at 10 a.m.
