Thomas Named Georgia State Student-Athlete of the Week

ATLANTA -- Leading the men's basketball team to three-straight wins and to a No. 1-seed in the upcoming Sun Belt Conference Championship, Jalen Thomas was named this week's Georgia State Student-Athlete of the Week on Monday.

The reigning Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week continued his excellent play last week recording his first career double-double and leading the Panthers to three wins including two on the road at South Alabama to win the league's East Division and a No. 1 seed in the upcoming conference tournament.

For the week, Thomas averaged 17.3 points, 9.0 rebounds per game and 3.0 blocked shots per game, while shooting 61.0 percent from the floor.

Thomas opened the week scoring a career-high 22 points on 10-of-15 shooting, while pulling down eight rebounds, dishing out two assists, and swiping two steals. It marked his third-straight game scoring a career-high as the Panthers topped Appalachian State 85-71.

In a nationally televised game on Friday night, Thomas finished with 14 points, seven rebounds, and four blocked shots in an 84-81 win at South Alabama.

On Saturday, in a 'winner take all' game, Thomas recorded his first career double-double with 16 points, 12 rebounds, and three blocked shots. He was just one rebound shy of recording the double-double in the first half alone, while holding down the inside after fellow big man Eliel Nsoseme picked up two early fouls and was limited to seven minutes in the first half.

For the season Thomas is averaging 10.5 points and 6.1 rebounds per game, while shooting 59.0 percent from the floor and 82.4 percent from the free throw line. He has a team-high 26 blocked shots this season.

Thomas and the Panthers will open the Sun Belt Conference Championship in Pensacola, Fla., on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. ET, facing either Arkansas State or Georgia Southern.
