Byes Secured; Sun Belt Conference Basketball Brackets Revealed

MOBILE, Ala.-Both the Georgia State men's and women's basketball teams earned byes in the upcoming Sun Belt Conference Championship in Pensacola, Fla., the league office revealed the championship brackets on Sunday afternoon.

Earning a No. 1 seed for the sixth time in program history, the men's team (14-5, 8-4 Sun Belt) will open the championship on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. ET facing the winner of No. 4-seed in the west Arkansas State (10-12, 7-8 Sun Belt) and No. 5-seed in the east Georgia Southern (13-12, 7-9 Sun Belt). The game will take place at the Pensacola Bay Center and air live on ESPN+.

The Panthers are 10-2 in conference tournaments as a No. 1 seed, the last time coming in 2019, which led to Georgia State's latest NCAA Tournament appearance. Georgia State has earned a top two seed in the tournament six times in eight years since rejoining the conference for the 2013-14 season.

Earning a No. 2 seed for the first time since 2001, the women's team (13-10, 9-7 Sun Belt) will open the championship on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET facing the winner of No. 3-seed in the west Little Rock (13-10, 9-7 Sun Belt) and No. 6-seed in the east Coastal Carolina (3-14, 0-13 Sun Belt). That game will take place at Pensacola State College and also air live on ESPN+.

The Panthers are 4-2 all-time as a No. 2 seed. The last time it happened in 2001, started a run of three-straight appearances in the NCAA Tournament.

Tickets for the championship are now on sale. Due to COVID-19 restrictions that will be in place for both championships, requests for tickets must be made through the Georgia State Ticket Office.

Fans planning to attend the tournament can submit their request HERE. Once submitted, a representative from the ticket office will call you to discuss your ticket options. Orders will be fulfilled based on Panther Athletic Club priority point rank and availability.

Face coverings (i.e., face mask or a cotton, multi-layer gaiter) are required for all individuals attending games at either venue.

The Garden at Palafox & Main will serve as the GSU Fan Headquarters (restaurant/bar) throughout the tournament. Specific gathering times will be announced later this week.

The women's championship game will take place at 2 p.m. ET, on Monday, March 8, while the men's championship game will take place later that evening at 7 p.m., with both games airing live on the ESPN Family of Networks. The men's basketball games will also air on WRAS-FM 88.5 beginning 30 minute before tip.
