Men's Soccer Falls to Bowling Green in MAC Opener

Box Score BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Despite taking an early second half lead, the Georgia State men's soccer team fell to Bowling Green 3-2 in the MAC opener for both schools on Thursday night at Cochrane Stadium.

Georgia State (7-3-0, 0-1-0 MAC) saw its four-game winning streak snapped as the Panthers lost on the road for just the second time in seven games this year. Bowling Green (8-2-1, 1-0-0 MAC) entered the night receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll and was ranked No. 36 in the latest RPI.

Bowling Green got on the board first in the 24th minute as Alberto Anaya found the back of the net thanks to assists from Jensen Lukacsko and Kyle Cusimano.

However junior Ross Finnie tied the match for the Panthers in the 37th minute and sent the two teams in the half tied 1-1.

Just 103 seconds into the second half, senior Matthew Fearnley, who was recently named one of 30 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award, scored a long-range goal off a pair of perfect passes from Simon Carlson and George Proctor.

Unfortunately, just seven minutes later in the 54th minute, the Falcons tied the game on a Kale Nichols goal off the foot of Zach Buescher.

Bowling Green found the net again in the 59th minute as Jacob Erlandson scored what proved to be the game winner and gave the Falcons a 3-2 with an assist going to Anaya.

The Falcons outshot the Panthers 13-8, including a 7-4 shots on goal advantage.
