ATLANTA - The Georgia State volleyball team fell to Texas State, 0-3 (25-27, 20-25, 15-25) Saturday night at GSU Sports Arena.
The Panthers drop to 6-16, 3-9 Sun Belt on the season, while Texas State improves to 14-11, 10-2 Sun Belt.Â
Georgia State was led by Meisheia Griffin who notched eight kills while hitting .438.Â
Leah Wilcox and Julianna Truscott also had strong performances as they combined for 15 kills.
Defensively, the Panthers were led by Olivia Kowalkowski and Claire Lewis as they combined for 26 digs. Lewis also added 14 assists.Â
Set one was highly competitive in the early going as the two teams battled to a 10-10 ledger. Texas State then jumped out to a 20-13 lead, before the Panthers stormed back with a 9-2 run to tie the set at 22. The Bobcats came away with crucial points down the stretch to win the set, 27-25.Â
In set one, the Panthers were led by Griffin who tallied five kills with a .556 hitting percentage.
Georgia State came out aggressive in set two as the Panthers jumped out to a 7-3 lead. Texas State then responded with a 10-5 run to take the lead, 13-12. The Bobcats never looked back and went on to win the set, 25-20.
Truscott had a stellar performance in set two as she logged four kills while hitting .375.Â
Texas State's momentum from set two carried over into set three as the Bobcats closed out the match with a 25-15 victory in the final set. Tessa Marshall led the Bobcats in set three with five kills and a .714 hitting percentage.Â
Georgia State will look to bounce back when it hits the road for away contests against App State (Nov. 5) and Coastal Carolina (Nov. 7) next weekend.Â
