Sassine's Two Goals Leads Men's Soccer to 2-0 Win Over Western Michigan

Box Score ATLANTA – Freshman Ethan Sassine scored a pair of goals to lead Georgia State to a 2-0 win over Western Michigan on Thursday night at the GSU Soccer Complex.

Georgia State (10-3-0, 2-1-0 MAC) picked up three critical points in Mid-American Conference play with just three matches remaining before the conference championship. The Panthers, who are receiving votes in the College Soccer News Top 30 for a second-straight week, won for the seventh time in the last eight games.

With the win, Georgia State has now won at least 10 matches in five of the last six seasons. The lone season in which the Panthers didn't reach double digit wins was last year when GSU played just 13 matches due to the COVID-19 pandemic and still finished 9-2-2.

Western Michigan (4-6-4, 0-3-0 MAC) remained winless in conference play as the Broncos took just seven shots on the night and only three of which were on target.

Sassine scored his first goal of the match in the 43rd minute off a perfect pass from Ross Finnie. The freshman found the back of the net for the second time in the 58th minute as Ramon Munoz found him in front of the net. Sassine now has a team high six goals this year and also leads GSU with 13 points.

Gunther Rankenburg recorded his fourth shutout of the season and lowered his goals against average to 1.14 per game.
