Faryar Named GSU Student-Athlete of the Week

ATLANTA -- Salar Faryar is this week's GSU Student-Athlete of the Week after leading Georgia State to a win over No. 13 Akron on Saturday.

Faryar scored a pair of goals in Georgia State's 3-1 win over Akron. The win was the first MAC win for the Panthers and the seventh time in program history knocking off a ranked opponent in program history. GSU is also tied for the national lead with six road wins this season.

Faryar got the Panthers on the board with a remarkable bicycle kick in the 39th minute to give GSU a 1-0 lead. Just minutes into the second half, Faryar found the back of the goal again to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead. The goal proved to be the game-winning goal.

In Thursday's MAC opener against Bowling Green, who was receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll, Faryar finished the game with two shots taken, both of which were on target. The Panthers nearly pulled off a win over the first place team before falling 3-2.

Faryar shares the Georgia State lead with four goals this season and leads the team with 10 points.

Next game: Tuesday vs. ETSU at 7 p.m. at home.
