Behind the Mask: Hannah Sadler

Hannah Sadler is a junior from Lilburn, Ga.

ATLANTA – Redshirt sophomore Hannah Sadler is coming off a career game against Appalachian State and is this week's feature on Behind the Mask.

Sadler, a Lilburn, Ga., native, played her high school ball at Parkview before spending her freshman season at Old Dominion. Sadler transferred to Georgia State and sat out last season due to NCAA transfer rules.

"Transferring was hard for me because I'm a shy person. It was a difficult transition, but my teammates made it easier", Sadler said. "Everyone here has been great."

In 10 games for the Panthers this year Sadler is averaging 7.9 points and 2.3 rebounds. On Friday against App State, Sadler scored a career-high 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting.

"It felt amazing. I know I've been putting in a lot of work so it was nice for everything to come together," Sadler said about her performance Friday. "I was really proud of myself. I was in a zone and it was great too because my high school coach brought some of her players to the game."

Sadler said COVID-19 has presented new challenges this season, the biggest coming in the weight room.

"Before social distancing we had partners in the weight room. Mine was Taniyah [Worth] and we pushed each other to go harder. Now we have to work out on our own, separated, and it's tougher to find that motivation and keep the energy up," Sadler noted.

Sadler and the Panthers have mounted three double-digit comebacks this season. Georgia State has rallied from down 23 points, 17 points, and 11 points.

"It says a lot about how hard-working we are. We're not going to let anything get us down", Sadler said. "We've been reading a book called 'Chop Wood, Carry Water' by Joshua Medcalf. During the Coastal Carolina game, Taylor Henderson was saying 'Chop Wood, Carry Water' in the huddle when we were down. That helped us rally and do the hard work to mount a comeback."

Sadler says the ceiling is high for this Georgia State team.

"I think we can be amazing. Our team chemistry is really, really good on and off the court. Now that everyone is back healthy we're having our best practices. We have a chip on our shoulder from losing and I feel like our whole mindset has switched."

Georgia State travels to Mobile this week to take on South Alabama Thursday and Friday on ESPN+.
