ATLANTA -- Georgia State shortstop Will Mize and pitcher Chad Treadway were named to the Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American team, powered by Diamond Sports.

Mize and Treadway were part of a strong freshman class for the Panthers in head coach Brad Stromdahl's first season, helping Georgia State to a 9-7 start in the abbreviated season.

"As a coaching staff and organization we are so happy they have been recognized as Freshman All Americans," Stromdahl said. "Will and Chad, along with many other players, contributed to what was an outstanding start for their first year playing college baseball. 

"These two, along with so many others in our program, make the future light up, and I am so excited to get back to work on the field.  They deserve the recognition for their play on the field, and we are thrilled to see them perform over the next few years."

Mize, a local product from Snellville, Ga., and Brookwood High School, started every game at shortstop and hit .373, second on the team and No. 10 in the Sun Belt Conference. He led the Panthers and ranked fifth in the conference with 17 RBI. Among Sun Belt freshmen, he was first in RBI and second in batting average, and only seven freshmen in the nation had more RBI. Mize led GSU with seven multi-hit games and finished the season with an 11-game hitting streak.

Treadway, a right-hander from Christ School in Asheville, N.C., made an immediate impact on the mound, leading the team with a 2.20 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 16.1 innings. He ranked No. 2 in the Sun Belt and No. 25 in NCAA in hits allowed per nine innings at 3.86 and stood No. 5 in the conference with 12.67 strikeouts per nine innings. Treadway began the season in the bullpen and then moved into the rotation on the final weekend, when he pitched five scoreless innings, allowing two hits with six strikeouts in his first start vs. North Alabama.
