Hunter Atkinson and punter
Brandon Wright are the newest Panther Pros as both signed National League Football free agent contracts following the 2020 NFL Draft.
Atkinson signed with the Atlanta Falcons, while Wright will be joining the Jacksonville Jaguars.
In signing with the Falcons, Atkinson not only remains in Atlanta, but he joins his hometown team, literally. He attended West Hall High School and lives in Flowery Branch, the Atlanta suburb that is the site of the Falcons' headquarters and training complex.
Atkinson was a two-time All-Sun Belt Conference selection and a four-year starter at left tackle for Georgia State, including two bowl games. He started every game from 2016-2019, a total of 49 straight contests, and was a key figure in back-to-back school-record rushing seasons in 2018 and 2019, helping the Panthers average 208 yards per game over his final two seasons. Tra Barnett and helped GSU to a winning season and bowl berth.
Wright was the Panthers' four-year starting punter who handled also handled placements and kickoffs He set the Georgia State record for highest career punting average at 42.3 yards per kick,  breaking the mark of 42.84 by current New Orleans Saints kicker Wil Lutz. He ranks second in school history in career punts (183), punting yards (7,928), PAT (104) and career scoring (200 points). Wright was a first-team All-Sun Belt selection and one of 10 semifinalists for the Ray Guy Award in 2018, when he ranked No. 3 in FBS in both punting average (48.2 - Sun Belt record) and net (42.8).
Along with Atkinson and Wright, six other former Panthers are active in the NFL, Lutz, the Saints' Pro Bowl kicker, and receiver Albert Wilson of the Miami Dolphins. Also active are cornerback Chandon Sullivan (Green Bay Packers), receivers Robert Davis (Philadelphia Eagles) and Penny Hart (Seattle Seahawks) and six-year veteran offensive lineman Ulrick John.
