Brown, Roberts Share Student-Athlete of the Week Honors After Big Wins

ATLANTA -- After huge victories over in-state foes, quarterback Cornelious Brown IV and guard Justin Roberts share this week's Georgia State Student-Athlete of the Week honors.

In a most memorable week for Panther fans, Roberts keyed the basketball team's four-overtime thriller at Georgia Tech last Wednesday, while Brown directed the football team's come-from-behind victory over Georgia Southern on Saturday at Center Parc Stadium.

Georgia State quarterback Cornelious Brown IV passed for a career-high 372 yards and scored the go-ahead touchdown with just 2:54 left to send the Panthers to a come-from-behind 30-24 victory over Georgia Southern.

Brown directed the Panthers to 17 straight points in the fourth quarter to rally Georgia State from a 24-13 deficit over the final 12 minutes. The victory clinched a winning regular season and gave the Panthers a 4-3 lead in the series with their in-state rival.

Brown went 8-for-9 for 126 yards on the two fourth-quarter touchdown drives. With Georgia State trailing 24-13, Brown directed an 8-play, 75-yard touchdown drive, followed by a 10-play, 69-yard drive, capped by his 1-yard plunge on third-and-goal. Then he hit Sam Pinckney for the 2-point conversion pass to give Georgia State a 27-24 lead.

Over the last two games, Brown has passed for 706 yards on 47 completions in wins over South Alabama and Georgia Southern. He completed his last 10 passes vs. South Alabama and first three vs. Georgia Southern. Thirteen straight completions is the second-longest streak in program history.

The redshirt freshman from Birmingham, Ala., leads the Sun Belt in passing (227.3 ypg) and is second in total offense (256.3 ypg) and points responsible for (14.2 ppg) and third in rushing touchdowns (7).

Junior Justin Roberts led the Georgia State men's basketball team to a 2-0 week including the program's first-ever win over an ACC program to open the regular season last Wednesday night.

Roberts finished with a career-high 26 points while tying a career-high with nine rebounds in Georgia State's 123-120 four overtime win over in-town foe Georgia Tech on Wednesday night. The guard played 44 minutes while knocking down five 3-pointers, dishing out six assists and swiping a steal as the Panthers snapped a 14-game losing streak to the Yellow Jackets.

It marked the longest game and most points scored in program history.

On Friday, Roberts scored 23 points on 9-of-10 shooting from the field, including 5-of-6 from 3-point range, as the Panthers topped Toccoa Falls 105-60. Playing just 22 minutes, Roberts dished out six assists and swiped three steals while pulling down four rebounds.

For the week, he averaged 24.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 6.0 assists while shooting 53.1 percent from the floor, 58.8 percent from 3-point range and 5-of-6 from the free throw line as the Panthers started 2-0 for the first time since the 2017-18 season.
