Men's Soccer Records Third-Straight Shutout, Tops Mercer 2-0

ATLANTA – Georgia State concluded its three-match homestand with its third-straight shutout topping in-state foe Mercer 2-0 on Tuesday night at the GSU Soccer Complex.

Despite missing two penalty kicks in the first half, Georgia State (5-0) got on the board just six minutes into the second half on Ross Finnie's first goal of the season with an assist from freshman Simon Carlson.

Senior Aris Briggs added some insurance in the 89th minute with his fourth goal of the season on an assist from Matthew Fearnley. Briggs, the Sun Belt Offensive Preseason Player of the Year, leads the league in goals and points this season.

Georgia State's five-straight wins to open a season matches the best start in program history as both the 2003 and 1975 Panther teams started 5-0.

Senior Paul Tyson returned to the starting line-up and earned the shutout recording four saves as he improved to 3-0 on the season.
