Coastal Snaps Men's Soccer Five-Match Winning Streak

CCU goal in 81st minute was first allowed by GSU in 372 minutes.

CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina scored a late goal and held on to snap Georgia State's five-match winning streak with a 1-0 win at the CCU Soccer Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

After both teams were held scoreless for the first 80 minutes, Coastal Carolina (1-0, 1-0 Sun Belt) got on the board with a goal by Marcello Jones in the 81st minute.

Georgia State (5-1, 1-1 Sun Belt) saw its winning streak snapped which had matched the best start to a season in program history.

The Chanticleers outshot the Panthers 9-4, with junior Matt Fearnley recording three of the Panthers four shots.

  • Coastal Carolina improved to 11-5-1 all-time in the series against GSU including a 5-2 mark in Conway.
  • The Chanticleers managed four shots on goal to the Panthers one.
  • Today's match marked the midpoint of the fall season for the Panthers who have five matches remaining before hosting the Sun Belt Conference tournament in November.
  • This marks the first of a home-and-home between Georgia State and Coastal Carolina. The Chanticleers will make the trip to Atlanta on Nov. 1.
