Get to Know All-Sun Belt Tight End Roger Carter

Happy Halloween, Panther Family! With Georgia State playing a football game on Oct. 31 for the first time in program history, look for more fun Halloween images on the Center Parc Stadium video board during Saturday's game as the Panthers host undefeated and No. 20-ranked Coastal Carolina (12 noon on ESPNU).

On the Field

>Three-year starter and one of the top tight ends in the Sun Belt Conference.

>Caught two touchdown passes in the win over Troy, including this one:
 
>Currently the team's second-leading receiver with 11 receptions for 160 yards and three touchdowns.

>Has excellent hands and is also a strong blocker and a key component in the Panthers' potent running attack.

>Earned All-Sun Belt honors in 2019, when he was GSU's third-leading receiver with 28 catches for 334 yards and three scores.

>As a true freshman, he made one of the most memorable plays in GSU annals with his 42-yard touchdown catch on a double reverse, flea flicker in the 2017 AutoNation Cure Bowl victory over WKU.

>Caught the first touchdown of his career in the 2017 victory at Georgia Southern.

>Career totals of 64 receptions for 776 yards and nine touchdowns. Ranks seventh in GSU history, and second among tight ends, in career touchdown receptions.

Off the Field

>As a child, Carter won a small rubber ball in an arcade game. He played with that ball for hours on end, bouncing it against the steps and catching, not knowing at the time that he was developing his hand-eye coordination and pass-catching skills. 

"It would come back different ways all the time. I would catch it just for fun, not even realizing it would help me out later in life."

>Psychology major who has made multiple appearances on the Dean's List and Athletic Director's Honor Roll.


Says head coach Shawn Elliott:

"Roger Carter is as solid a player as we have in this program. I can't say enough about him. From the time he set foot on our campus and started playing the tight end position, he has been a special player and person. We're very fortunate to have a guy like him on our football team."
