Regions Bank and Georgia State Unveil New Financial Literacy Center for Student-Athletes

ATLANTA-On Wednesday morning members of Regions Bank joined Georgia State University leaders for a ribbon cutting ceremony and announcement of the opening of the Regions Next Step Financial Learning Center.

The facility located in Georgia State Stadium as a part of the Academic Learning Lab is a dedicated space for Regions associates to provide financial education for student-athletes.

Regions has connected Georgia State student-athletes with financial insights since 2016. In 2018, Regions made a $10,000 contribution to help build a co-branded space for classes inside the stadium. A check presentation was held in 2018, and the facility is now open for classes.

"Most college students, including student-athletes, have limited to no exposure to personal financial education when they arrive on campus," said Senior Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Development Brad Horton. "Without basic financial literacy, student-athletes, who are managing between different sources of income and how they use it, are at risk of increased stress and anxiety levels.

"Our goal with the Regions Bank and Georgia State University Athletics partnership was to identify both the level of financial literacy among student-athletes and the best way to reach them. The Regions Next Step Financial Literacy Center at the Georgia State Stadium will educate our 400+ student-athlete population on the importance of personal finance basics like budgeting, saving, and investing that are vitally important concepts when transitioning from college to career. It's important that student-athletes understand that managing their finances is a big part of financial well-being over the course of their lifetime and this partnership will positively impact the future of our student-athletes.

"I am truly appreciative of the financial commitment from Regions Bank to create the Regions Next Step Financial Literacy Center at the Georgia State Stadium, as this will serve as the initial financial literacy program for student-athletes within the Sun Belt Conference."

Georgia State student-athletes have already taken part in multiple classes with Regions Bank associates with many more planned for the future.
