Panthers Lose Battle with UTEP

EL PASO, Texas – Georgia State lost a hard-fought battle with UTEP 71-68 at the Don Haskins Center Saturday night to conclude the UTEP Thanksgiving Classic.

After trailing by 10 right before halftime, the Panthers came out of halftime clicking on both offense and defense. Jada Lewis led the charge with eight points in the 3rd quarter as GSU outscored the Miners 20-15 in the period.

GSU completed the comeback with a Tehya Lyons free throw with 8:08 to go in the game to tie the score at 59-59.

With 6:14 on the clock, Shaq Miller-McCray gave GSU its first lead since the second quarter.

UTEP and GSU traded baskets until the Miners went on top 70-68 with 1:42 remaining. Georgia State had two chances to tie, but neither shot went in and UTEP escaped with a 71-68 victory.

Sophomore Taylor Hosendove recorded her second double-double of the weekend with a 21-point, 19-rebound performance Saturday night. Hosendove was 6-of-8 from the field and knocked down 9-of-12 free throws. The 19 rebounds is second-most for a Panther this season.

Lewis finished with 17 points and Lyons added 10. Miller-McCray totaled six blocks and three steals to go with six rebounds.

Georgia State falls to 1-5 on the season. The Panthers are return to Atlanta before heading north to Greenville, S.C., to take on Furman on Dec. 5.
