Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Fourth Quarter Rally Comes Up Short

Hosendove records third straight double-double.

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Georgia State's women's basketball team outscored Furman 24-12 in the final 10 minutes, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Paladins as Furman held on to win 62-55 Thursday night at Timmons Arena.

Taylor Hosendove did a little bit of everything, leading the Panthers in both points (20) and rebounds (18). The sophomore added three steals and a pair of blocks.

After missing the first six games of the season, Allison Johnson had a strong showing in her return. Johnson finished with 12 points and 5 rebounds. Joining Hosendove and Johnson in double-digits was Jada Lewis with 10 points and three steals.

Georgia State struggled shooting the ball through the first three quarters and Furman's lead grew to as much as 20. The Panthers turned up the intensity on defense in the fourth quarter, however, which fueled the comeback.

Redshirt freshman Tehya Lyons led the charge in the final minutes and finished with four steals.

Lyons got a steal and a bucket to cut Furman's lead down to three with 15 seconds left, but Furman knocked down its free throws to hang on.

GSU outrebounded the Paladins 44-38, but Furman shot better from the field 44%-33%.

Next up for the Panthers is a 4 p.m. contest at UNCG Saturday in Greensboro, N.C.
