Panthers Pick up 600th Program Win

Georgia State defeated NM State 59-51 in El Paso.

EL PASO, Texas – Georgia State's women's basketball team earned is 600th program win Friday afternoon with a 59-51 victory over New Mexico State at the UTEP Thanksgiving Classic.

"When you talk about 600 wins, you have to look back at some of the great coaches to come through Georgia State," head coach Gene Hill said. "Rankin Cooter, Brenda Paul, Sharon Baldwin, and of course Lea Henry. This program has had some excellent players and coaches come through and we look to keep growing that wins number."

Two Panthers recorded double-doubles in the win. Sophomore Taylor Hosendove recorded her first double-double as a Panther with 12 points and 11 rebounds and senior Shaq Miller-McCray finished with 10 and 10 to go with four blocks.

Freshman Taylor Henderson led GSU in scoring with 17 points on 8-for-11 shooting. As a team, the Panthers shot 26% from the field while holding the Aggies to 33% shooting.

GSU's defense collected 12 steals led by freshman Moriah Taylor with three.

After trailing 17-15 at the end of the first quarter, the Panthers won all three remaining periods. GSU outscored the Aggies 19-14 in the second quarter to hold a 34-31 advantage at halftime.

GSU's lead grew to 10 with just under two minutes remaining in the game as GSU took care of business, protecting the ball and making free throws, in the final minutes.

Georgia State improves to 1-4 on the season and will face host UTEP Saturday evening at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso. The Panthers will be the home team in the contest.
