ATLANTA -- Georgia State fell to Georgia 12-2 in a midweek contest at the GSU Baseball Complex.

Catcher Nick Gatewood and right fielder Brandon Bell homered for the Panthers (11-10).

Gatewood, the left-handed hitting catcher, blasted a solo shot to right field in the first inning for his team-leading fifth homer of the season. Gatewood is the Sun Belt Conference's leading hitter at .358.

Bell added a solo homer, his third, in the sixth inning, and also had a single in the first inning.

Georgia's Keegan McGovern had two homers, a double and five RBI and Michael Curry added a two-run homer to lead the Bulldogs (15-6).

Georgia jumped in front quickly with three runs in the first inning off starter Craig Williams (1-1), including McGovern's RBI-double. Gatewood's homer pulled GSU within 3-1 in the bottom of the first, but McGovern hit a two-run homer in third and another two-run blast in the fifth as Georgia pulled ahead 7-1.

Kevin Smith (3-1) earned the victory with two scoreless innings as the teams combined to use 13 pitchers.

Eight GSU hurlers struck out 12 Bulldogs but issued 10 walks.

Georgia State returns to Sun Belt play this weekend, hosting South Alabama at the GSU Baseball Complex in a series that opens Friday at 6 p.m. on PantherVision.
