ATLANTA -- Georgia State fell to No. 6 Ole Miss 16-2 Wednesday at the GSU Baseball Complex in Game 2 of the midweek series.
The Panthers (11-6) had a chance to win Tuesday's game vs. the Rebels but saw their ninth inning rally come up short in a 5-3 loss, but Ole Miss was dominant Wednesday in winning its ninth straight game to improve to 17-1 on the season.
GSU held the Rebels to seven hits Tuesday, but today Ole Miss collected 14 hits, including two home runs.
Ole Miss starter Jordan Fowler, a freshman left-hander, was outstanding, allowing just one hit and one walk in five innings to improve to 3-0 on the season.
Freshman catcher Tanner Gallman produced the Panthers' only runs with a two-run, pinch hit single in the eighth inning.
Ole Miss jumped out quickly with four runs in the first inning and then took control on Cole Zabowski's three-run homer in the third, which made the score 7-0.
Georgia State now turns its attention to Sun Belt Conference play, which opens this weekend at UT Arlington. Game 1 of the series is Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET at Clay Gould Ballpark in Arlington, Texas.
