ATLANTA – With tipoff of the 2018-19 season just a few weeks away, Georgia State announced several date changes and game times on Thursday for the upcoming season. It was also announced that all home games will air on ESPN Plus.
The most notable changes will occur in February as back-to-back weekends will move from the traditional Thursday-Saturday to Wednesday-Friday to accommodate television.
Georgia State will now travel to face UL Monroe and Louisiana on Feb. 6, and Feb. 8, with the match-up with the Ragin' Cajuns airing live on ESPN2 at 9 p.m. ET. Georgia State and Louisiana have met three times in the Sun Belt Conference tournament in the last five years and have been the top two teams in the league since 2013-14.
A week later, the Panthers' home games with Troy (Feb. 13) and South Alabama (Feb. 15) will be moved to Wednesday-Friday to accommodate a Georgia Southern-Troy game that will air on ESPN2 on Feb. 15.
Other Scheduling Notes:
- 17 of the 18 Sun Belt games will air on the ESPN Family of Networks
- Georgia State's road game at Kansas State will air on Fox Sports Kansas City
- Georgia State's road game at Alabama will air on SEC Network Plus
- The Cayman Islands Classic will air on Stadium via their Facebook page
The defending Sun Belt Conference champions finished last year 24-11, advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in four years. This year's squad returns four starters from last year and more than 3,600 career points, 13th-most in the nation.
Georgia State enters the season as the most successful in the state over the last five years. The Panthers have won 110 games since the start of the 2013-14 season, the most of any NCAA Division I program in Georgia.
The Panthers will open the season on Nov. 1, hosting Georgia College in an exhibition game at 7 p.m., in the GSU Sports Arena. The regular season begins on Nov. 6, as Georgia State hosts East Tennessee State, an NCAA Tournament team from two years ago.
In total, Georgia State could play as many as six NCAA Tournament teams from last year, including as many as three-straight in the Cayman Islands Classic in mid-November. Also on the home schedule is renewing a rivalry with Mercer and welcoming former CAA foe UNC Wilmington.
Georgia State will play 14 home contests this winter at the GSU Sports Arena. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit GeorgiaStateSports.com/Tix.
