ASHEVILLE, N.C.- The Georgia State men's soccer team earned another impressive win Tuesday night, defeating UNC Asheville 3-1. Junior Hannes Burmeister scored the game-winner, with Alex Summerfield and Kwaku Adu-Boahene scoring their first goals of the season.
With the win, the Panthers improved to 10-4 (2-0 SBC) while the Bulldogs fell to 1-13.
Georgia State had few chances to score in the first half, taking just six shots. Summerfield found the back of the net in the 33rd minute, netting an unassisted goal and putting the score at 1-0 going into halftime.
The Panthers struck quickly in the second half, with Burmeister scoring what proved to be the game-winner at the 57-minute mark. Adu-Boahene put the game away in the 76th minute, scoring with assists from Tristen Trevino and Javen Palmer.
UNC Asheville answered soon after, putting the score at 3-1 less than five minutes later.
The Panthers outshot the Bulldogs 17-8, putting eight shots on target. Senior Yannic Horn made three saves in goal, giving him 38 total saves this year.
“We had a great team win tonight,” head coach Brett Surrency said. “We were able to play a lot of bodies and I'm quite pleased to get out tenth win of the season. We will enjoy the win tonight and then tomorrow put our full focus toward Appalachian State and what will be a very difficult Sun Belt match.”
