Men's Soccer Drops Season Opener

What you need to know:

* The Panthers dropped their first match of the season in a 1-0 loss at Mercer on Friday night.
* Junior Yannic Horn had five saves for the team, just four shy of his single-game career record.
* GSU will host Memphis on Sunday at noon for its home opener at the GSU Soccer Complex. 


MACON, Ga.- The Georgia State men's soccer team fell 1-0 in its road opener at Mercer on Friday night.

The Panthers are now 0-1 while Mercer opens the season 1-0.

Sophomore Hannes Burmeister had the first shot of the game for the Panthers, but a save by JR DeRose kept the ball out of the net. GSU had five total shots, with Liam Fitzsimmons having the only other shot on target.

Junior Yannic Horn had two early saves to keep the score even, but Connor Antley of Mercer was able to score on a penalty kick in the 31st minute. Horn had five total saves, just four shy of his single-game career high.

Coming out of the half, Georgia State looked to even the score but the Bears gained control of the ball and outshot the Panthers 11-3.

The Panthers will return to Panthersville on Sunday for their home opener, hosting Memphis at noon. Admission to the GSU Soccer Complex is free.
