Lafayette, La. -- Georgia State dropped its second straight game at No. 29 UL Lafayette 7-3 Friday evening at Tigue Moore Field.
For the second night in a row, GSU (12-11, 2-3 Sun Belt) outhit the Ragin' Cajuns (14-9, 5-3 Sun Belt), tonight by a 10-6 margin, but the Panthers hurt themselves with three errors, hit into three double plays and left 11 on base.
Georgia State got a solid start from Marc-Andre Habeck, who was charged with five runs in five innings but allowed only three hits and two earned runs. Panther pitchers have held the Cajuns to eight hits in the first two games of the series.
ULL broke a 2-2 tie with three runs in the fifth inning, all with two outs and two of them unearned. Stefan Trosclair lef off with a single and was at second base with two outs when Brian Mills drove him in with a single to right field. After an error prolonged the inning, ULL added two more runs on a bases-loaded walk and a wild pitch to take a 5-2 lead.
After UL Lafayette struck first on Joe Robbins' solo homer in the first, Georgia State loaded the bases with no outs in the second but managed only one run on Rhett Harper's fielder's choice ground ball before a double play ended the inning.
The Panthers took their first lead in the series an inning late as Justin Jones drew a leadoff walk, moved to second on a sacrifice and scored on James Clements' opposite field single. But ULL turned another inning-ending double play.
Clements had two hits on the night, making him 4-for-7 in the series. Jarrett Hood, who had his 13-game hitting streak snapped last night, responded with two hits, including an RBI-single in the seventh inning.
The series concludes Saturday with a 12 noon ET game that will air in ESPN3.
