ATLANTA -- Georgia State dropped its Sun Belt Conference opener to Arkansas State 11-1 Friday at the GSU Baseball Complex.
James Clements drove in the Panthers' (9-9, 0-1 Sun Belt) run with a sacrifice fly in the third inning.
Justin Jones had two hits for Georgia State, and third baseman Jarrett Hood extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a second-inning single.
First baseman Jack Thompson was hit by a pitch and then singled in his first two at-bats, giving him 12 consecutive at-bats in which he reached base or drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
Arkansas State (10-7, 2-2 Sun Belt) jumped in front with four first-inning runs off GSU starter Wayne Wages (1-2), making the first weekend start of his career following the season-ending injury to Friday starter Cole Uvila.
Red Wolves' starter Tyler Zuber (2-1) pitched six inning, allowing one run on six hits with five strikeouts. Third baseman Tanner Ring was 5-for-6 with two RBI, and center fielder Austin Baker drove in three runs on three hits.
The series continues Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
