Frady to Enter German Baseball Hall of Fame

ATLANTA -- Georgia State baseball coach Greg Frady, who recently completed a highly successful 11-year term as the head coach of the German National Team, will be inducted into the German Baseball and Softball Hall of Fame next July.

The induction will take place July 31 at the 2016 Bundesliga All Star Game in Bad Homburg as Frady becomes the 12th member of the German HOF.

"Greg Frady has earned a level of respect and success throughout his 11 years with the German Senior National Team Program that is second to none," German Baseball and Softball Federation (DBV) President Mirko Heid said.

"He led our national team in a professional manner and with utmost integrity towards the Nation of Germany and our Federation. He is one of the main reasons that German Baseball has achieved unparalleled success and received international recognition and respect over the last decade. As was evident from the begining, German Baseball was a matter close to his heart. His passion, his character and his success will be recognized and remembered by his HOF induction."

Frady won more than 100 games in international competition from 2004-14, and in 2010 he was named European Coach of the Year.

In 2008, Frady's squad came just two games shy of qualifying for the Beijing Olympics. In 2009, he led the team to a win over China in the Baseball World Cup, just over a month after the German team defeated the United States at the World Baseball Challenge in British Columbia and finished in second place.

Frady guided Germany to a fourth-place finish at the 2012 European Championships and to the finals of the World Baseball Classic qualifier.

In 2013, his former German team standout Donald Lutz became the first product of the German system to reach the Major Leagues when he made his debut with the Cincinnati Reds, and two more of Frady's team members were called up in 2015 in Max Keppler (Minnesota Twins) and Aaron Altherr (Philadelphia Phillies).

"I am truly honored to be inducted into the DBV Hall of Fame," Frady said. "The 11 years spent with German baseball was extremely rewarding for me and my family. I would like to thank all the great players, coaches, staff, administrators and fans to who helped with the success of the Senior Team. When a person is honored publicly with a Hall of Fame induction, it is truly a reflection of all the great people involved.

"I am thankful to have had the opportunity to serve Team Deutschland for Deutscher Baseball und Softball Verband e.V. for such a long period of time and humbled that our work will be remembered. I will forever carry Deutschland Baseball in my heart.“

Frady enters his 10th season as the Georgia State head coach with the highest winning percentage (.550) of any coach in school history. With 283 career victories, he trails only Mike Hurst (293) for most victories by a GSU head coach.

The Panthers open the 2016 season Feb. 19, when they host Western Michigan at the GSU Baseball Complex.
