Women?s Tennis to Compete at Duckworth Winter Classic

What you need to know:

  • Georgia State's 2016 roster features four returning all-conference players along with four freshmen.
  • The team will begin dual match action at UAB Saturday, Feb. 6 and at Samford Sunday, Feb. 7.
  • GSU will open at home Friday, Feb. 19 against FIU at Dunwoody Country Club.

ATLANTA, Ga. – Georgia State's women's tennis will travel to Clemson to participate in the Duckworth Winter Classic this weekend. Georgia State individuals will be competing against Clemson, Charleston Southern and UNC Greensboro.

Teams will begin play Saturday at 8:30 a.m. with one flight of doubles matches and two flights of singles matches. Play will resume at the same time Sunday with two flights of doubles matches followed with a final flight of single matches.

This will mark head coach Jason Marshall's second season leading the GSU program. Georgia State finished 13-9 last spring, which included a trip to the semifinals of the Sun Belt Championships.

Every returning player from the 2015 season: Linn TimmermannTarani KamoeKristin Rehse and Niri Rasolomalala earned All Sun Belt Conference honors. The invitational will also feature the debut of newly enrolled Daniela Ramirez, a highly-regarded freshman from Merida, Venezuela.

The team closed the fall season strongly with a 16-0 finish in singles competition at the Georgia State Fall Invitational. The team also won six out of eight doubles matches in the weekend tournament.
