ARLINGTON, Texas – Playing its second match in as many days, Georgia State's volleyball team was narrowly defeated Saturday night in Arlington, Texas, losing 25-23, 23-25, 26-24, 25-23.

UT Arlington (11-3, 2-0 SBC) outlasted several rallies by Georgia State (4-8, 0-2 SBC), leading to each set being decided by two points. Senior Deidra Bohannon led all players with 21 kills and added 13 digs for her sixth double-double of the season. Redshirt senior Kitan Ajanaku earned nine kills and five blocks.

Georgia State got off to a strong start, but the Mavericks settled in and took an 11-8 lead in the first set. Stinson's 17th ace of the season put GSU back on top at 17-16, leading to a UTA timeout. The Panthers built a 21-17 lead, but UTA responded with a big run to win the set 25-23.

Georgia State held a 12-5 advantage in the second set and would go on to win 25-23, but not before the Mavericks rallied once again to tie it at 22. This time, the Panthers regrouped with a timeout and finished strong to even the match at 1-1.

UT Arlington didn't trail in the fourth set until Bohannon put GSU on top 24-23. The Panthers couldn't cap off the rally with a win, however, as UTA scored three straight to win 26-24.

Georgia State used a 6-3 run in the fourth set to even the score at 13-13. UTA and GSU traded points until Ajanaku posted back-to-back kills, giving the Panthers a 19-17 lead. UTA answered with four in a row, leading to a Panther timeout. Down 23-20, GSU fought back again to tie it up, but couldn't close it out and fell 25-23.

Georgia State returns home to host Texas State on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 6 p.m. at the GSU Sports Arena. The Panthers play just one home match in the first six Sun Belt contests of the season. GSU then plays six of the final eight at home to close out the conference slate.
