What you need to know:
* No. 7 Georgia State (18-1) finished second at the Florida State Pairs Tournament, which was cut short by severe weather on Sunday.
* The Panther pairs combined to go 16-9 over the two day event.
* GSU will find out Monday if it is one of eight schools selected to compete in Gulf Shores, Ala. at the AVCA Nationals May 1-3.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Georgia State's No. 7-ranked sand volleyball team competed at the Florida State Pairs Tournament Saturday and Sunday, going a combined 16-9 during the two-day event and finishing second.
Severe weather in the Tallahassee area ended the tournament prematurely, but GSU was still able to get several matches in on Sunday. No. 5 Florida State topped the leaderboard with 47.5 team points, which are decided by the results and point ratio (points won/points lost). The Panthers finished second with 40.5 points while UAB came in third and Eckerd fourth.
After going 15-3 on Saturday, Georgia State pairs had a tougher time Sunday, winning one while losing six. In the Gold Division, GSU's No. 1 and 3 pairs both fell to FSU's top two teams. Majda Dostalova and Milani Pickering competed in the Silver Division and knocked off UAB's No. 1 team with a straight-set win before losing to the Blazer's No. 2 pair in three sets.
Delaney Rohan and Natalie Wilson got just one match in before the storms rolled in. The duo battled with FSU's Katie Horton and Cecile Woie, but came up short, losing 23-21, 19-21, 15-8.
Georgia State will find out on Monday if it will be one of eight schools to compete at the AVCA Nationals. If selected, it will be the first appearance for the Panthers in their three-year history.
