* No. 7 Georgia State (18-1) wrapped up the Fiesta on Siesta Key tournament with wins in pool and bracket play Sunday.
* The Panthers competed in the pairs-only portion of the event.
* GSU travels to Tallahassee, Fla. next weekend for the final pairs competition of the season.
SIESTA KEY, Fla. – Georgia State's seventh-ranked sand volleyball team finished play at the Fiesta on Siesta Key tournament Sunday. The Panthers picked ups wins in both bracket and pool play on the final day of the event.
The Panthers had mixed success Sunday as they faced stiff competition. Panther pairs faced teams from FIU, Florida State, UAB and Stetson among other top schools. Sara Olivova and Jansen Button advanced to the second round of their bracket before falling to UAB's Fairbanks/Rishell. Majda Dostalova and Milani Pickering fell in the second round of their brackets as well to a FSU team and Sarah Agnew and Kate Rawls were defeated in the second round of their bracket.
The Panthers had more success in pool play, racking up eight wins between five teams. Deidra Bohannon and Alexis Townsend went 3-0 in their pool, beating pairs from FIU, FSU and USC. Delaney Rohan and Natalie Wilson went 2-1 along with Molly Smestad and Alexis Elmurr. Jessica Fourspring and Nina Interwies lost two matches while Allie Elson and Jessie Swaney fell to FIU, Stetson and Jacksonville.
Georgia State has one more weekend of pairs competition before the team finds out if it will be making the trip to Gulf Shores, Ala. for the AVCA Nationals. GSU is currently ranked No. 7 in the AVCA poll and the eight teams receive bids to the tournament.
