* No. 10 Georgia State (2-0) finished the Carolina Classic with pairs competition Sunday in Columbia, S.C.
* Delaney Rohan and Natalie Wilson won three matches to win the Silver Bracket and finish the weekend with a perfect 5-0 record.
* Georgia State hosts the Diggin' Duals event on Wednesday at the GSU Sand Courts.
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Georgia State's sand volleyball team wrapped up play at the Carolina Classic with pairs competition Sunday in Columbia, S.C. The No. 10 Panthers went a combined 13-8 and won the Silver Bracket with Delaney Rohan and Natalie Wilson.
“Going into the weekend we wanted focus on our side of the net and we did a good job of that,” head coach Beth Van Fleet said. “We were pleased to go 2-0 against good teams in JU and Mercer yesterday and then I was pleased with how we fought in pairs today. It was great to see the unity of our team.”
After opening the season on Saturday with wins against Jacksonville and Mercer, the Panthers saw five pairs advance to the semifinals in two separate brackets in the pairs competition at the Carolina Classic. Of those five teams, two advanced to the finals and one team, Rohan and Wilson, won their respective bracket.
Rohan and Wilson finish the weekend a perfect 5-0 as the pair didn't drop a game in dual play on Saturday at the No. 4 spot. Jessica Fourspring and Nina Interwies teamed up this weekend to go 4-1, their only loss coming to Rohan and Wilson in the finals of the Silver Bracket. That championship match went to three sets with Rohan and Wilson edging out their teammates 24-22, 20-22, 15-13.
Georgia State, ranked 10th in the country by the AVCA returns to Atlanta to host the Diggin' Duals at GSU event Wednesday beginning at 9 a.m. at the GSU Sand Courts. The event is free to students. Georgia State plays New Orleans at 9 a.m., Mercer at 1 p.m. and South Carolina at 7 p.m.
