* GSU has won nine of last 12, hosts UL Lafayette this weekend.

Savannah, Ga. -- Georgia State fell 7-3 at Savannah State Wednesday afternoon at Tiger Field. Joey Roach had three hits for the Panthers, who had won eight straight against Savannah State.

Georgia State dropped to 13-7 on the season, but the Panthers have won nine of their last 12 games. The Tigers (10-11) defeated GSU for the first time since 2004 and just the second time in 13 meetings.

Savannah State starter Zach McCormack (1-0) allowed three runs on five hits in 5.2 innings, and then three Savannah State relievers shut out the Panthers over the final 3.1 innings, allowing just one hit.

With the Panthers trailing 4-2 with one out in the sixth, Roach tripled over the center fielder's head and then came home on a balk to cut the deficit to one. But Savannah State answered with three runs in the bottom of the sixth and held on from there.

"Today was a tough day," said GSU head coach Greg Frady, whose Panthers won an 11-inning game on Tuesday night. "Anytime you play a road game right after you play a hard-fought, extra-inning game, you run the risk of not having good energy and focus. Our concentration and focus was not good today, and we looked like a different team than we normally are.

"I want to congratulate Savannah State. They won all the deciding moments in the game - the big hits, the two-out RBIs, all the little things inside the game. But we will regroup and get ready for this weekend."

Georgia State returns home to host UL Lafayette in a Sun Belt Conference series that opens Friday at 6 p.m. Tickets are available in advance by calling 404-413-4020 or by visiting GeorgiaStateSports.com.
