WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

* GSU defeated Sun Belt foe Howard 3-1 on Senior Day Saturday

* The 8-7 Panthers (3-1 Sun Belt) close the regular season Saturday at Georgia Southern.

* GSU entered No. 12 in the NCAA in scoring and had a seventh game with 3 or more goals to up the average slightly.

Georgia State sent its five seniors off with a win on Saturday as the Panthers claimed a 3-1 decision over Sun Belt foe Howard.

GSU improves to 8-7 overall, 3-1 in the Sun Belt, and moves on to the regular season finale next Saturday at Georgia Southern, also 3-1.

Saturday's three goals were scored by Nomis Cisic (PK), Jad Elkhalil on an assist from Hannes Burmeister and then a PK by Burmeister.

Howard scored first at 25:06 and then GSU took control. The Panthers had a 19-6 shot advantage with 11 shots on goal. GSU had a 7-2 corner kick advantage.

The five Panther seniors are Conor Acheson, Andy Anglade, Nomis Cisic, Cory Plasker and Eddie Wilding.

Cisic took GSU's penalty kick to tie the match after Nenad Smiljanic was fouled in the box in the 30th minute. The teams went into halftime tied at 1.

GSU got the go-ahead goal in the 56th minute from Jad Elkhalil when he finished a left-footed shot in the box after a pass from Hannes Burmeister.  Burmeister followed six minutes later with a penalty kick after a hand ball in the box.

Luke Oesterle made his third start of the season and upped his mark in goal to 2-1.

Georgia State won its second straight overall and fifth-straight home match. The Panthers, No. 12 in the NCAA in scoring, scored three or more goals in its seventh game of the 15 on the season to up the season average to 2.20 goals per match.The 19 shots today upped the season average to 14.80 per game as the strong offensive attack continued.

The Panthers close the regular season with a match Saturday at Georgia Southern. The Sun Belt Championships are Nov. 12-15 at Appalachian State.
