Panthers Fall 4-1 at Texas State

San Marcos, Texas -- Georgia State fell 4-1 at Texas State Sunday at Bobcat Ballpark as the Bobcats completed a sweep of the Sun Belt Conference series.

Texas State (22-17, 11-7 Sun Belt) got another strong pitching performance as starter Lucas Humpal (3-3) allowed just one run on three hits over eight innings. He struck out six and walked three.

Chase Raffield hit his 10th home run of the season for the Panthers' (17-23, 5-13 Sun Belt) lone run. His solo blast to right field came with two outs in the sixth inning, bringing GSU wihtin 3-1, and extended his hitting streak to 14 games. Raffield leads the Sun Belt with 45 runs batted in.

"We faced a really good guy today, and he really had it going," GSu head coach Greg Frady said. Their pitching is really good, and you can clearly see that their team is built around their pitching.

GSU starter Tyler McClure (2-7) was lifted in the second inning after allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits. Aidan McLaughlin came on and worked out of a jam and went on to pitch 5.1 innings, allowing just two hits and one earned run. Andrew Fessler (0.2 innings) and Jerry Stuckey (1.0 finished the game with scoreless relief for the Panthers.

"I thought we pitched well enough today and put ourselves in good enough position, but we just couldn't get the bats going, and the reason for that is their pitching," Frady said. "Give them credit. This is a tough place to play.

"We will bounce back and keep working."

Matt Rose had his hitting streak snapped at 12 games.
