Sand Volleyball Concludes Fiesta on Siesta Key Tournament

ATLANTA - The No. 9 Georgia State sand volleyball team concluded play at the Fiesta on Siesta Key Tournament Sunday. Katelyn Rawls and Sarah Agnew advanced to the final of their Sunday Fun Day bracket.

Agnew and Rawls fell to College of Charleston's Sloane White and Andi Zbojniewicz 27-25 in a highly-contested final. En route to the final, Agnew and Rawls defeated pairs from North Florida, UL Monroe and Florida State. In the same bracket, Milani Pickering and Natalie Wilson defeated a pair from North Florida before falling to eventual champions White and Zbojniewicz. 

In a different bracket, Delaney Rohan and Alexis Townsend lost in the first round to Jacksonville's Gabriela Roman and Mayara Prestes 25-18. In a third bracket, Molly Smestad and Jessica Fourspring advanced to the semi-finals before losing to Jacksonville's Emily Laskelle and Alyssa Robertson, 27-25. 

In the gold bracket, Sara Olivova and Jansen Button defeated UL Monore's Michelle McNamee and Blanca Ocana 21-17, 21-15 in the first round, before falling to Jacksonville's Sammie Strausbaugh and Taylor Nyquist 21-17, 21-19. In the silver bracket, Katie Madewell and Moriah Bellissimo defeated Tulane's Grace Weaver and Annie Shurtz 21-11, 21-19 before fallig to LSU's Meghan Mannari and Katie Lindelow 19-21, 21-19, 15-12.

"We played a a consistently high level all weekend," assistant coach Kirsten Gallagher said. "We improved as a program and gained a lot of experience and knowledge as individuals. This will really help our team in the tournament next weekend at Florida State."

The Panthers will be back in action April 18 and 19 at the Florida State Tournament.
