No. 9 Sand Volleyball Competes in Pairs Competition

SIESTA KEY, Fla. - After the first day of pairs play at the Fiesta on Siesta Key, Jessica Fourspring and Molly Smestad won the Copper Division of the Fiesta Team Cup.

Fourspring and Smestad defeated Britta Forsythe and Brandy Grant of Grand Canyon, 25-18, in the finals of the Copper division of the Fiesta Team Cup. Fourpsring had six aces the in the final match. In the Fiesta Team Cup, all matches are one set to 25, win by two points.

In the Gold division of the Fiesta Team Cup, both pairs of Katelyn Rawls and Sarah Agnew and Delaney Rohan and Alexi Townsend lost in the semi-finals. Rawls and Agnew lost 25-15 to Florida State's Julie Brown and Melanie Pavels after defeating Webber's No. 1 pair in the quarterfinals. Rohan and Townsend lost to Webber's No. 2 pair. 

In the Silver division of the Fiesta Team Cup, Milani Pickering and Natalie Wilson lost in the semifinals to Tulane.

Georgia State had two pairs in the Pairs Competition. In one pool, Moriah Bellissimo and Katie Madwell went 1-2. Bellissimo and Madewell defeat UAB's Sara Rischel and Rachel Fairbanks, 14-21, 21-12, 15-10. Ealier in the day, the Panther pair lost to UL Monroe's Zuzana Markova and Marcela Araya 21-19, 27-29, 15-6 and FIU's Jessica Mendoza and Maryna Samoday 21-7, 21-18.

Sara Olivova and Jansen Button, in a different pool, went 2-1. The pair's only loss came to Jacksonville's Taylor Nyquist and Sammie Strausbaugh 21-17, 21-18. Olivova and Button defeated Florida Gulf Coast's Ella Kazanian and Caroline Jordan 21-9, 21-13. The Panther duo also defeated Grand Canyon's Kenzie Phelps and Kay Dmobroski 23-21, 21-15. 

The Panthers will compete in open pairs on Sunday to finish out the Fiesta on Siesta Key Tournament.
